Journal Excerpts

I asked the boys to reflect on their experiences to date in their journals. Always a fascinating window into the mind of a chorister:

Journal Excerpts

Amrit:
I was amazed to think that we were walking on the same floor that Shakespeare walked on when we were in his house. There was an amazing person who knew everything about Shakespeare. He could recite any line from Shakespeare’s plays!

Matthew:

Yesterday we went to Shakespeare’s childhood house.  The house was very old and two stories high. The entrance, kitchen, washroom, and living room were all one room, and as big as a modern day bedroom. We couldn’t go upstairs to the bedroom because the stairs are wooden and old. The house was the second largest house in Stratford in Shakespeare’s time.

We also went to Mary Arden’s farm. We saw a man milk a cow the old fashioned way, the cow was tied to a wooden post.  The man was on his knees and the milk was squirted into a wooden bucket.

Elliot:

This tour has been so amazing. I love medieval stuff, and England is the closest you can get! I am really looking forward to Salisbury Cathedral. I can’t wait to sing there! I also want to see the architecture. Lastly, I really want to look at the windows.

One thing I really liked seeing was Shakespeare’s birthplace. It was really cool how we could walk through his room and his parents’ room 400 years after he died. It was also amazing to look at his will. It was cool because it will not be on display again for another twenty years!

Case

We went a farm to see how farmers, maidens, and even falconers took care of themselves. Today we went to Gloucester Cathedral and saw a bunch of dead people’s tombs and different types of architecture. There were parts of the cathedral that were filmed during the Harry Potter movies.
